If you have other queries not addressed here, feel free to reach out to our friendly team. We’re always happy to offer guidance and ensure your move with North Star Removals is smooth, simple, and stress-free.
Do your movers disconnect appliances?
Our team focuses on the safe handling and transport of your belongings. For appliances like fridges, washers, dryers, and electronics, we recommend having them professionally disconnected before moving day. This ensures everything is ready to go and prevents any possible damage or complications during the move.
Can you move gas bottles or hazardous materials?
For everyone's safety, we don’t transport hazardous materials like gas bottles, petrol, oils, paints, or chemicals. Please make separate arrangements to move or safely dispose of these items before moving day.
Do I need to empty drawers and cabinets?
It’s a good idea, yes. Emptying them makes things lighter and easier to move, and it helps prevent any scratches or damage along the way. Plus, it just makes the whole move go a lot smoother.
Are moving boxes necessary?
Absolutely! Good quality moving boxes are a great investment. They keep your belongings organised, make the moving process quicker, stack easily, and are usually more space-efficient than plastic bins. New boxes offer the best protection and cleanliness.
Should I pack my valuables myself?
Yes, that’s usually best. While we take great care of all your possessions, it’s a good idea to keep small valuables like your wallet, phone, jewellery, keys, and passport with you just for extra peace of mind.
Do I need transit bolts for my washing machine?
If you’ve got a front-loading washing machine, then yes, it’ll probably need transit bolts to keep the drum secure during transit. We recommend checking your manual or asking a qualified technician to install them before moving day. Our team can’t do this part since each model has different requirements. Please note that we are not responsible for any drum damage during the move if appropriate pins are not installed.
How should I prepare my fridge for moving?
Make sure to empty your fridge completely, give it a quick clean inside, and unplug it at least a day before the move. Leave the doors open so it can air out. This helps prevent any bad smells or mould from building up.
How should I pack my TV?
The safest way is to use the original box with the foam inserts if you still have it. If not, you can grab a TV moving box from a storage or packing supply store. Make sure all the cables and accessories are disconnected and packed securely, so nothing gets lost or tangled during the move.
How much space do pot plants take up?
Plant pots, especially ceramic ones, can be pretty bulky and heavy. To prevent damage, we can't stack anything on top of them, and they can't be stacked on top of other items. This means they take up more space than you might think. Please highlight this prior so we can plan the truck space properly.
How should I pack fragile items?
Please wrap each fragile item (crockery, glassware, ornaments, etc.) individually in packing paper or bubble wrap to keep them safe. Fill any gaps in the box with soft materials, like towels or scrunched paper, to prevent items from moving around. Don’t forget to label the boxes as “fragile” and let our movers know which ones they are so that we can handle them with extra care.
What are some packing basics?
A few simple rules make packing so much easier:
Put heavier items like books or kitchenware in smaller boxes, and use larger boxes for lighter things like clothes, bedding, or toys.
Always tape the top and bottom of each box securely, and try not to overpack as boxes should close flat without bulging.
It also helps to label each box with the room it belongs to, so unpacking is quicker and more organised.
Can you assemble/disassemble furniture?
Yep, we sure can! Our services cover assembling, reassembling and dismantling furniture. Just let us know when you book so we can bring the right tools and plan ahead. Don't worry — the cost for this is included in your overall quote.
What happens if something is damaged?
While our highly trained movers take great care with your belongings, accidents can happen. If something does get damaged, we’ll make it right, whether that means repairing, replacing, or compensating you; we’ll sort it out quickly and fairly. Our goal is to make sure you feel completely looked after throughout your move.
How much notice do you need to book?
The earlier, the better! Booking at least one to two weeks ahead gives you the best chance of locking in your preferred date and time, especially during busy seasons like summer or end-of-lease periods.
What is travel time?
Travel time is the time it takes for our team to travel from our Fitzroy depot to your location and back. It's a separate charge, calculated based on your suburb's distance from Fitzroy.
How can I pay?
We accept credit or debit card payments via Payid or bank transfer. Invoicing can also be provided. We also accept cash payments.
Can I contact you after hours?
Yes, you can! We operate seven days a week, though extra charges may apply for weekends or public holidays. If your move is scheduled outside regular hours, we’ll give you your mover’s direct contact number so you can reach them easily.
What if I want to cancel my booking?
If you cancel at least 72 hours before your move date, there’s no penalty. However, cancellations made within 72 hours of your scheduled move may incur a fee.
Am I covered if something gets damaged?
Our professional team is covered by Public Liability, Carriers Insurance, and Commercial Vehicle Insurance. These protect against damage or loss caused by our team during the move. However, for extra peace of mind, we recommend arranging your own removals insurance to ensure full coverage for all your belongings.
Can you help with small or single-item moves?
Absolutely! Small moves are what we do best. Whether it’s a few boxes, a fridge, or just a couch, we’re happy to help. We’ll tailor our service to suit the size of your move so you’re only paying for the time and space you actually need.
How long will my move take?
That depends on a few things, like how much you’re moving, the access at each location, and the distance between them. Once we know the details, we’ll give you a clear estimate so you know exactly what to expect on moving day.
Can I ride in the truck with the movers?
Unfortunately, no. For insurance and safety reasons, we can’t carry passengers in our trucks. But don’t worry, our team will keep you updated throughout the move so you’ll always know what’s happening.
Can you move things from multiple locations?
Yes, absolutely! If you’re picking up items from more than one address, like a storage unit or a friend’s house, just let us know when booking. We’ll plan the route and timing so everything runs smoothly.
What if I need to change my moving date?
That’s no problem, just contact us as soon as possible. We’ll do our best to reschedule your booking to a new date that suits you, depending on our availability.
What if access is limited or there’s no parking?
No problem, we deal with that all the time! If your street has limited parking or narrow access, please let us know in advance so we can plan for it. We can also advise on any council permits you might need for parking on moving day.
